On the occasion of Art Basel Paris, Galerie Jacques Lacoste Rive Gauche is putting in regards sculptures by Antoine Poncet with a selection of emblematic creations by Charlotte Perriand, Serge Mouille, Jean Royère…

This dialogue between the work of one of the great protagonists of modern sculpture and the decorative arts testifies to the same questioning around free form.

From the first half of the 20th century, modern art and the avant-gardes sought to free themselves from literal representation to move towards abstraction and offer other types of images or motifs, whereas some artists nourish their reflection by observing nature and the forms it generates. These forms that we call “free” or “organic” express a singular perfection. They can be irregular, asymmetrical, without losing any of the feeling of harmony that they arouse.

For artists, they constitute the starting point for reflection and the bases of an aesthetic which asserted itself from the first years of the century, notably with Constantin Brancusi and Jean Arp. This sensitivity reached its climax during the years following the Second World War, as evidenced by the creations of Charlotte Perriand, Jean Royère, Serge Mouille, as well as the sculptures of Antoine Poncet.
